New Meals-on-Wheels Advisory Council Meets

Meals-on-Wheels of Johnson & Ellis Counties held its first Advisory Council meeting on Wednesday, February 16, 2005, at the Waxahachie Chamber Board room. This Council has been established to guide Meals-on-Wheels services in Ellis County, as well as plan for the future of the organization.

“We have great expectations for this group,” Vinsen Faris, Meals-on-Wheels Executive Director said.

The Council consists of 27 local persons representing the different communities throughout Ellis County. These service areas include Midlothian, Palmer, Waxahachie, Ennis, Ferris, Italy, Milford, Maypearl, Red Oak, and Ovilla. Each person on the Council voluntarily chose to participate after an invitation was extended to them. Each person choosing to serve on the Council will serve a minimum term of one year, as well as electing its own officers. The Council will be expected to increase the awareness of Meals-on-Wheels in Ellis County both for service and fundraising purposes.

“This Council is long overdue. They (Council) will be imperative in expanding our services and community involvement in Ellis County,” Faris said.

In attendance at Wednesday’s meeting were: Bettie Gray, Betty Jeffcoat, Charles “Charlie” Morton, Debbie Box, Denise Butler, Dr. Harold Nolte, Jeff Lincks, Joann Parker, John Givens, John Wray, Karen Cox, Mandy Wilson, Marvin Mott, Patrick Walker, Rainey Hicks, Richard Braucher, Richard Dormier, Rusty Ballard, Samuel Leach, Thelma Minton, and Wayne Baggerly. Other Council members include: Bob Sokoll, Judge J. Hays, Pat Payne, Mayor Todd Little, Tim Bass, and Ruth Shugart.

Faris added, “With such an incredible group of people involved on the Council, they will no doubt bring additional credibility and much needed visibility to Meals-on-Wheels in Ellis County. We are excited of the expertise, potential new contacts, and networking possibilities!”
