Meals-on-Wheels of Johnson & Ellis Counties to hold March For Meals Campaign

Meals-on-Wheels of Johnson and Ellis Counties will be participating in the national 2008 March For Meals campaign.  Meals-on-Wheels’ March For Meals event will include an awareness media campaign of its local services in each community, the national "Members For Meals" and "Members For Meals" Day on March 19, and a BBQ Benefit on March 29.  "We are excited about our March For Meals campaign and hope to raise awareness of senior hunger in our community through our activities," said Amy Jackson, director of development.  

"Mayors and Members For Meals" includes all the local mayors, State Representatives, and Congressmen delivering beginning March 19.  "We are excited about having Representative Rob Orr and Jim Pitts and Congressman Chet Edwards and Joe Barton participate in our event this year," added Jackson. "Our state and federal representatives, as well as our mayors have been supportive of our program in the past, and the new national 'Members For Meals"  is an excellent way to continue our relationship."

In addition, Meals-on-Wheels will be hosting its 3rd Annual Benefit BBQ on Saturday, March 29, at Loma Linda Events Pavilion in Rockett.  The Benefit will consist of an evening of food, entertainment by Wade Hatton & the Texas Hat Band, as well as an opportunity to raise monies for our program.  Meals-on-Wheels will be having a auction the night of the event. 

"This will be an evening to thank our supporters, as well as bring more awareness to the work we are doing," commented Jackson.  The organization is seeking sponsors for the event, with packages available from $200 to $1,500, with varying benefits for each.  Attendance to the event is $50 per person.

March For Meals is a national campaign, in which Meals-on-Wheels is a participant, to raise awareness of senior hunger, and to encourage action on the part of the local community.  Senior nutrition programs across the United States promote March For Meals in their local communities through public events, partnerships with local businesses, volunteer recruitment, and fundraising initiatives.
