Meals-on-Wheels of Johnson & Ellis Counties to hold March For Meals Campaign

Meals-on-Wheels of Johnson and Ellis Counties will be participating in the national 2006 March For Meals campaign. Meals-on-Wheels’ March For Meals event will include an awareness media campaign of its local services in each community, the national “Mayors For Meals” Day on March 22, and a BBQ Benefit for Ellis County on March 25. “We are celebrating five years serving the homebound in Ellis County,” said Amy Jackson, director of development. “We are excited about our March For Meals campaign and hope to raise awareness of senior hunger in our community through our activities.”

“Mayors For Meals” Day events will include a Mayor’s Reception in Fort Worth on March 20 with national media attention, and all the mayors of the county will be delivering on March 22. “We are excited about having 10 local mayors participate in our event,” added Jackson. ”Our mayors have been supportive of our program in the past, and the new national “Mayors For Meals” Day is an excellent way to continue our relationship.”

In addition, Meals-on-Wheels will be hosting its 1st Annual Ellis County Benefit BBQ on Saturday, March 25, at the National Guard Armory in Waxahachie. The Benefit will consist of an evening of food, fun & entertainment, as well as an opportunity to raise monies for our program. “This will be an evening to thank our supporters, as well as bring more awareness to the work we are doing,” commented Jackson. The organization is seeking sponsors for the event, with packages available from $100 to $1,000, with varying benefits for each. Individual tickets are also available for $15 each.

March For Meals is a national campaign, in which Meals-on-Wheels is a participant, to raise awareness of senior hunger, and to encourage action on the part of the local community. Senior nutrition programs across the United States promote March For Meals in their local communities through public events, partnerships with local businesses, volunteer recruitment, and fundraising initiatives.
