| Meals-on-Wheels Receives Donation
from Walgreen’s
On
October 4, Meals-on-Wheels of Johnson & Ellis Counties received
$46, 439, from Walgreen’s Distributions Center, Waxahachie.
Each year, the Distribution Center picks an organization to be the
recipient of its year-long, fundraising drive.
“Through events such as bake sales, lunch sales, raffles,
various contests, and the famous “Dollar Day,” sale
where employees can by merchandise overstocked in our warehouse,
we raised over $23,000!” said Kevin Parrish, Human Resources
representative and Fundraiser Committee member. The great part about
the Walgreen’s fundraising program is that all monies raised
locally will be matched dollar for dollar by the Walgreen’s
Corporation.
“We are very honored to be picked out of all the worthy
causes in our community. This sizeable donation will provide over
8,000 meals to the homebound elderly in this community,” said
Amy Jackson, director of development.
The Walgreen’s Distribution Center was opened in June 2001.
Currently, they serve over 625 stores in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma,
and New Mexico. The Distribution Center employs over 700 persons,
representing both Ellis and Johnson County, who are enthusiastic
about this year’s fundraising efforts.
“Here at Walgreen’s Distribution Center, we are very
pleased to help such a worthwhile cause as Meals-on-Wheels, and
hope the resources can better serve our community at large,”
concluded Parrish.
