| Meals-on-Wheels Requests Volunteers
to Deliver Meals
Meals-on-Wheels of Johnson & Ellis Counties needs additional
volunteers to help get noontime meals delivered to the homebound
elderly and disabled residents throughout Johnson and Ellis Counties.
“With the growing needs in our communities, we are in need
of new volunteers,” said Cynthia Cleaveland, Development Assistant.
Currently, Meals-on-Wheels has over 50 delivery routes providing
meals in the two counties. Meals-on-Wheels depends on its volunteers
to deliver to many communities in both counties, which include Burleson,
Cleburne, Waxahachie, Joshua, Palmer, Rio Vista, Alvarado, Godley,
Grandview, Keene, Ennis, Midlothian, Maypearl, Italy, Milford, Red
Oak, Venus, and Ferris.
“At this time, we have volunteer needs in all the areas we
serve, but particularly in Cleburne, Waxahachie, Midlothian, Ennis,
Keene, Joshua, Ferris and Milford,” she continued.
Prepared meals are picked up at locations in each of the communities
served, Monday through Friday between eleven A.M. and the noon hour,
with delivery times taking no longer than forty-five minutes. Volunteers
are provided with detailed directions and instructions, and help
when they can, whether it is weekly, a couple of times a month,
or simply on an as needed basis.
“For
our volunteers who deliver meals, they are not only helping to feed
the hungry, they are breaking the isolation that many of these people
feel,” Cleaveland said. “Without our volunteers, what
we do would not be possible,” she added.
